Roets, age 72, of Manhattan, died Thursday June 8, 2017 at the Stormont- Vail Hospital in Topeka.He was born on November 13, 1944 in Merrill, Wisconsin, the son of Frank and Gladys (Erickson) Roets. He grew up in the area and graduated from Merrill High School. Jack served in the United States Army for 2 years after high school. He was proud to have served his country and was honored to be a veteran.Jack was married to Rita White. They were blessed with their daughter Debra Sue. Rita and Jack later divorced.On June 23, 1979 in Manhattan, Jack was united in marriage to Marcia Hoefler. She survives at their home in Manhattan.Jack worked for Brewer Motor Company as a mechanic and also at Ferrell Service Station in Aggieville. He then went to work with the Manhattan Fire Department. He retired as Battalion Chief. The fire department was important to Jack. It was more than a job it was something he took pride in serving the city of Manhattan.He loved cars, especially corvettes. Also he was a licensed pilot and owned an airplane at one time. His yard was very important to him he loved spending time on his Walker mower. He then started to golf with Marcia. Jack was a past member of the Stagg Hill Golf Club in Manhattan. He enjoyed playing golf as much as he could until his health declined. Jack will be missed by his family, friends and former co-workers and also his special sidekicks: Mulligan and Sandy Bunker.He was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Gladys Roets; two sisters, Ruth and Marion; and his brothers, Eugene and Robert.In addition to his wife Marcia, Jack is also survived by his daughter, Debbie Sue Haag and her husband Joel or Hutchinson, Kansas; his brothers: Norman, Frank Jr., Milan and Joe and his sisters: Jane, Joyce, and Carol; his grandsons: Matthew Leverich and Jacob Leverich, and also his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews and his many friends.Funeral Services for Mr. Roets will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 15, 2017 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Ben Duerfeldt officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.The family will greet friends during a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Thursday.Memorial contributions in memory of Jack are suggested to the Stagg Hill Golf Club. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.Online condolences may be left for the family through the funeral home website at www.ymlfuneralhome.com
