May 1, 1925 - Dec. 3, 2016 Jack Dunlap Mast of Zamora died at home surrounded by family on Dec. 3, at the age of 91. He was born on May 1, 1925 and was a 4th generation farmer whose family settled in Yolo County in 1868. He graduated from Esparto High School then entered Stanford University. He left college to train in the Navy's V12A Aviation Program at Peru State College. At the end of the war he was at St. Mary's preflight school and then returned to Stanford and graduated in Spring 1948 with a degree in Economics. Jack met the love of his life, Charlotte Hubbard, on a TWA flight where she was a Stewardess. They married at Stanford Chapel and have celebrated 68 years of marriage. Jack farmed for over 65 years and kept up with changing mechanical, technological and economic climates. After long days of farming, he spent his time serving on many area boards including: Sacramento Valley Farm Credit, Yolo County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (now known as Farm Service Administration), Farmers Rice Co-op, Yolo County Water Resources Board, CA Sugar Beet Growers Association, St Johns Retirement Village, the Zamora School Board and was commissioner for the Zamora Fire Department from 1967-2014. He valued agricultural education and lectured at Stanford University on farming practices and had Stanford students visit his ranches, as well as served as Ag advisor for Woodland High School and beginning in his 20's, was an active supporter of 4H, including as a leader for tractor maintenance for Zamora 4-H and as booster for the club for many years. He was Past Master of the Landmark Masonic Lodge and a Knights Templar and was awarded California Masonic Grand Lodge Hiram Award. In addition, he was a member of Ben Ali Shrine for more than 60 years. He and Charlotte were intrepid world travelers, beginning in the days before tourism became an industry and visited many continents. For decades, they served as hosts for international programs and students such as: the Minnesota Agriculture Student Training, Experiment in International Living and the International Food Institute. Jack enjoyed hunting deer and elk throughout the West and Dall sheep with his good friend Jim Long, in Alaska. In his retirement, Jack restored the first truck he ever drove at age 10: a 1928 FAGEOL which had been purchased by his father and grandfather. He and his FAGEOL were featured in "Antique Truck Magazine" in October of 2011 and will be in the Spring 2017 "Farm & Ranch Magazine". He and his FAGEOL were featured in many events including at Shakespeare at Brice Station Vineyards and the Old Sacramento Jazz Festival. He drove his FAGEOL in many parades, including chauffeuring the Zamora 4-H club in its bed during the Woodland Christmas Parade for many years. Jack, a proud family man, is survived by his wife of 68 years Charlotte, and his children, William (Terry), Jacqueline (Robert Kahn), Stuart (Dolores), James (Terry), Warren (Julie), and grandchildren Steven Mast, Eric McCrea, Dr. Karen Reidlinger, Dr. Quincy Kahn, Dr. Elyne Kahn, Leda Mast, Jordan Mast, Harrison Mast, Graham Mast, Jack C.
