JOHN VOGEL Obituary

Mar 03, 1955 - Aug 02, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
John Vogel John was born on 3 March 1955 in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada. After spending his early years in Canada and then Florida, he briefly moved back, with his family, to his parent's homeland, Switzerland, before traveling on to Western Australia. Growing up in Australia, he learned about farming and developed many other life skills which served him well throughout his life. In 1973, at the age of 17, he joined the , and soon thereafter, with his mother and siblings, moved from Australia back to the USA, settling in Springville, Utah. John served a two-year church mission in Italy, and returned to Utah to complete his university education at BYU. While still finishing his degree, he met his sweetheart, and love of his life, RaNae, promptly proposed after only two weeks, and married just a few months later on 29 April 1977. Over the next 40 years they created a wonderful family and a rich and rewarding life. Upon completing his BS degree in Accounting, John and his young family moved to Oregon before putting down permanent roots in an area he loved, "God's Country," Washington State. Over the first years of their marriage, John and RaNae welcomed eight children into their family: Rachelle, John, Janis, Stacy, Kathleen, Bryan, Kristi, and Shannon. After earning his CPA and working as an accountant for Weyerhaeuser for more than 20 years, he started his own consulting business, Sequoia Partners, LLC. Later he worked as Controller or CFO for Comfort Design Windows & Doors, Belco Forest Products, and Bucky's Midway Muffler Radiator. John was well known for his generosity giving his time and talents to many. Despite the needs of his large family and a demanding professional life, John made time to volunteer. He served many in his church. He also contributed to his community and through his service on the Board of the Red Canoe Credit Union. John was happiest at home with his family at his beloved Vogel farm in Edgewood, Washington. He especially enjoyed and looked forward to Sunday dinners when his large, loving and energetic family gathered. No matter how large the group, John always welcomed friends and family to join the party! Much of his free time was spent on his true passion of home remodeling where he used his talents as a farmer, beekeeper, and DIY handyman (carpenter, electrician, plumber, etc.) to successfully tackle many farming and home maintenance projects to help family and friends. He has left a rich legacy of service, integrity, hard work, self-reliance, entrepreneurial spirit, never-failing patience, kindness, and optimism; a man who loved learning and travel, loved to laugh, and above all else loved his family. His family was always his number one priority. John passed away at home on 2 August 2017 from cancer at the age of 62 in Edgewood, Washington, with his sweetheart by his side. John is survived by his wife, RaNae; children, Rachelle (Eric) Willhite, John (Charity) Vogel, Janis (Emmanuel) Garteiser, Stacy (Timothy) Rushton, Kathleen (Rodrigo) Vogel, Bryan Vogel, Kristi (Jorge) Bustamante, and Shannon (Mackenzie) Hall; grandchildren, Maverick, Nadia, Mckinley, Vera, Freyja, Heidi, John II, and Kyler; siblings, Christine (Stephen) Tolman, Peter (Jane) Vogel, Charles (Sandra) Vogel, Rita Blackett, and Christopher Vogel. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Rita Geiser, and his father, Johann Alfred Vogel. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, 12 August 2017 at 10:00AM at the LDS Church at 1015 13th ST SW Puyallup, WA 98371, and his burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery. All are welcome to attend the memorial and celebrate his life.
