John Richard Luce "Jack" the pond guy Jack passed away on February 16th, 2017 at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma WA. He was born on September 5th, 1935 in San Francisco, CA to parents Fred and Doris Luce. Jack was the fourth of twelve children and has three sisters surviving him. Jack was a loving and caring father and grandfather who lived for spending time with his grandchildren and family. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 34 years DeAnna Johnson, and 4 children that he loved dearly: Daniel Luce (Tammie
Smith), Patricia Laskowski, Kimberly Skanes (Douglas Skanes), Daniel Johnson (Sarah Johnson) and his mother in-law Helen Kronaizl. Jack is also survived by the grandchildren he loved so much: Mersaedees Luce, Jack and Morgan Laskowski, Angela McClain, Claire and Charlie Johnson. Jack was proud to serve his country in the US
Army from April 1954 to April 1957. Jack loved working with plants and people, Jack owned and operated JZ Landscaping of Tacoma later changing the name to DJ Enterprises which completed landscaping and irrigation projects in and around Peirce County. Jack also enjoyed his time as superintendent of the floral building at the Puyallup fair from 1969 to 1980. After closing DJ Enterprises Jack opened Oak Tree Gardens where he found his true passion by selling Koi fish and pond supplies. Jack was a very personable and positive person who loved to teach and help people his entire life and will be greatly missed by all. We take solace in knowing he is now with other family members and friends that have passed before him. There will be a Celebration of Jack's Life in the Fred Oldfield Western Heritage Center at The Puyallup Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 11th at 2:00 pm, enter at Red Gate (North side) and parking is available across street.
