Irwin Arthur Ross Obituary

Jan 21, 1924 - Jan 29, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
ROSS, IRWIN ARTHUR, died peacefully November 29, 2016 of natural causes. He greatly missed his soul mate of 63 years, his "magnificent, wonderful Nat," who passed away earlier this year. Irwin was 92 and is survived by his large, loving family. Irwin was a man known for honesty, integrity, and humor. All who knew him, adored him. He could always be counted on to flash his radiant smile, to drop a few quick dance steps, and to tell an amusing joke. He was the consummate salesman and lit up any room he entered. In his last years he advised everyone to stop worrying about him and to "Just keep on doing what you've been doing." His proudest accomplishment was the family he and Natalie produced: sons Michael (Marla), Scott (Elisa), Richard and Ken (Liz), grandchildren Bradley (Rachel), Jared, Jennifer (Yuval), Adam (Murray), Phillip, Nicole, Megan, Chloe and Sophie, great-grandchildren Chase, Ryder, Noa and Daniella. Irwin was born on January 21, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York, and was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Michael Rosenzweig. His sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Alvin Rothman, were also important members of his family. He left college to defend his country and was a proud member of "The Greatest Generation." He was an infantryman in the Rainbow Division, and from that, a decorated war hero for his bravery who earned both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Soon after the war, he met Nat on a visit to Miami Beach and was smitten. The couple made their home first in Atlanta, Georgia, and then, ultimately, in North Miami Beach, Florida. While bringing up four sons and traveling as a salesman, Irwin always found time for golf, leisure travel and friends. He is now reunited with Frankie Klein, Larry Shorehart and many others. They were like his brothers. Irwin and Uncle Larry Shorehart were tied together by their beloved Brooklyn and Erasmus High. They loved playing stickball in the street. After retirement, Irwin was a golf ranger, entertaining yet again! He volunteered at Memorial Hospital Miramar and was honored for his public service. His kind nature, love of life, steadfast honesty and work ethic, and razor-sharp sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by his family. The family wishes to thank his dedicated aide, Andrea Gordon, who made Irwin's remaining time with us dignified and stylish. Irwin and Natalie have been reunited in love for all eternity. They are holding hands and are at peace knowing that they did an amazing job raising a loving family who will carry on their good names with honor and pride. The funeral is scheduled for a graveside service, Lakeside Memorial Park, Miami, Florida, on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at 11:30 am. All donations made in Irwin's memory can be sent to Miami Jewish Health Foundation, Attention: Jenny Ray, 5200 NE 2 Avenue, Miami, FL 33137.
