VERRALL, IreneIrene Clare Verrall passed away on October 23, 2017, at St. Paul's Hospital, surrounded by family. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Ron, her nephew John (Lori, Ben, Hannah), her niece Tanya (John), her dear friend and caregiver Fawn, as well as many friends from Luther Special Care Home. Irene was predeceased by her mother Yvonne, her father Ernest, her sister-in-law Grace as well as a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Irene was born on May 9, 1944 in Ottawa and spent her earlier years living near Aylmer, Quebec. She then moved back to Ottawa to begin a 28 year career with Transport Canada. Upon her retirement, she joined her brother Ron and his family in Saskatoon. For the last eight years, she lived at Luther Special Care Home. Irene enjoyed visiting with family and friends; sharing stories, memories, and many laughs with them. She had an amazing memory and could tell you exact details of events that had occurred many years ago. Irene enjoyed listening to music, watching funny movies, playing Yahtzee, and celebrating the holidays - There were never enough ornaments on her Christmas tree. She was also a dedicated Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, cheering on her team with her friends at the Care Home. Irene cared deeply about her family and friends; always concerned about other's well- being. This compassion extended to animals. In particular, she befriended and owned many dogs during her life and, more recently, she loved to visit with her niece's dogs at the care home. The family wishes to thank Dr. Berwyn Larson and the staff of Luther Special Care Home for their care of Irene. We would also like to thank Dr. Nathan Janzen and the staff of 5th Medicine, St. Paul's Hospital for your kindness and compassion during Irene's final days. Special appreciation is expressed to Fawn Knaggs, Irene's caregiver and close friend. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Luther Special Care Home (3rd floor auditorium – 1212 Osler Street, Saskatoon). Donations in memory of Irene may be made to New Hope Dog Rescue, the Saskatoon SPCA, or the Luther Special Care Home Renewal Campaign (LutherCare Foundation).
