Ina "Maxine" ThomasDes MoinesIna "Maxine" Thomas, 96, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, December 23, 2016. Ina Maxine was born on September 12, 1920 in Carbon, Indiana to Elsie (Baker) and David John Jones.Maxine grew up in Brazil, Indiana and moved to Des Moines in 1947. She married William "Richard" Thomas on December 12, 1937. Together they were blessed with five children. She worked as a cashier for over 26 years at Super Value, retiring in 1986. Maxine was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church and a 78 year member of the Eastern Star.Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Grant Thomas and David (June) Thomas; daughter, Paula (Richard) Nichols; grandchildren, Rick and Rory Thomas, Sheri Cross, Terry Thomas, Dee Dee Kern, Shannon and Patrick Thomas, Anna Beth Bates, Callie and Thad Thomas; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Zambinini and Kay Stearley; brothers, Roland (Lila) Jones and Gordon Jones; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and special friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; sons, Gary Thomas and Lynn Thomas; sisters, Georgina and Pauline; and her brother, David.Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
