Howard E. Dingfelder, 92, of Washington St., Corry, Pa., died on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at his residence. He was born on October 4, 1924, in Corry, Pa., a son of the late Walter and Ruth Dahl Dingfelder.Howard was raised and educated in Corry, Pa. Following his graduation from Corry High School in 1943, he enlisted in the
United States Navy and served with the Navy SeaBee's for just shy of three years from June 1943 to March 1946, most of which was with the 122nd battalion. Upon his return Howard began working for Raymond Division of Associated Spring-Barnes Group as a tool maker for over forty four years, retiring on February 28, 1990. He was heavily involved with the First United Methodist Church of Corry, including overseeing the construction of the new church building on Worth Street and handling the ongoing maintenance issues after that. Howard was widely recognized as a jack of all trades who could fix almost anything and would lend a hand whenever needed. Along with his parents, Howard was preceded in death on May 1, 2009, by his wife Virginia M. Vruink Dingfelder whom he married on October 15, 1949, in Clymer, N.Y., and three sisters, Marion Humphrey, NormaVanderhoof and Betty Landers and a brother-in-law Donald Merritt. Howard is survived by two sons; Dan Dingfelder and his wife Diane of Solon, Ohio, and Lynn Dingfelder and his wife Nancy of Corry, Pa.; two sisters, Joanne Rater and her husband Gary of Corry, Pa., and Jean Merritt of Albion, Pa.; a brother, Alan Dingfelder and his wife Marie of North East, Pa. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Michael Dingfelder and his wife Jamie of Strongsville, Ohio, Kyle Dingfelder of Solon, Ohio, Lisa Benton and her husband Matt of Pittsburgh, Pa., Janet Monn and her husband Jason of Corry, Pa., and Erica Hepler and her husband Kris of Clymer, N.Y., and seven great grandchildren. There are also numerous nieces and nephews and a very special friend Audrey Kimmy of Union City, Pa. Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., and attend the funeral service at the First United Methodist Church, 650 Worth St., Corry, Pa., on Monday at 11 a.m. Rev. William Beatty and Rev. Russell Hines will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
