Teter, Herschel M.HERSCHEL M. TETER, age 84, of Marshfield, WI, formerly of Loyal, WI, passed away at Atrium Post Acute Care, in Marshfield, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate and inurnment will follow in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday, from 10am until time of service.Herschel Merwin Teter was born on November 19, 1931, in Lenawee County, MI, rural Adrian, MI, the son of Harry and Gladys (Bird) Teter. He was raised on a farm, near Waterloo, IA, where he received his education and graduated from high school in 1947. After completing high school, Herschel moved with his parents to a farm east of Loyal. He enlisted in the
U.S. Marine Corps in 1950 and served in Korea as a tank commander, having attained the rank of sergeant, and was awarded the
Purple Heart and
Bronze Star. On June 19, 1954, he married Colleen Schweer at Readlyn, IA and together they raised five children. Herschel and Colleen farmed in the Loyal area, and he later drove semi-truck for the former Foremost Foods in Owen, Roehl Transport in Marshfield, and lastly for Grassland Butter in Greenwood.He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity American Legion Post #358, and DAV Chapter 57.He is survived by his wife, Colleen, of Marshfield; 5 children: Dr. Allen (Susan) Teter of Marshfield, Peggy (Greg) Lindner of Marshfield, Cheryl (Glenn) Patoka of Menasha, Michele (Dean) Scherer of Greenwood, Jenise (Robert) Oertel of Auburndale; 14 grandchildren: Geoffrey Lindner (fiancée Dana Tritz), Joe (Kayla) Krasselt, Sara (Trevor) Newman, Matt (Jenna) Krasselt, Shanna (Aaron) Smith, Jameson Krasselt (fiancee Shannon Ramirez), Shawn Patoka, McKayla Scherer, Shane Scherer, Brianna (Jesse) Pfeffer, Trevin Oertel, Aubrey Oertel, Tori Scherer, Gavin Teter; 8 great-grandchildren: Lydia, Natalie, Nash, Nathaniel, Kylan, Emelia, Annabelle, Libby Mae; one brother: Dale (Barbara) Teter of Granton; many nieces and nephews and their families.Herschel was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Gladys Teter, and 2 sisters & their spouses: Marguerite (Keith) Thomson and Norma Jean (Dell) Bravener.Online condolences may be expressed at
