Herma was born in Shreveport Louisiana, she graduated top of her class at Kelmier High School. She also graduated with honors having her Master's in Pyscology. 

She was the youngest of seven siblings all deceased. She married after college to Micheal Gary. Having seven children Michael Jr. , Catherine, Julia, Gary, Donald, Johnathan,Lynell and Tiffany her grandchild (Julia) deseased mother. She also leaves 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren neices and nephews. Host of dear friends and church members.
