Herbert H. Harries Sr., 86, of Yuma passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2013 at YRMC after a brief illness. He was born on March 3, 1927 in Uhrichsville, Ohio. He attended college and served in the U.S. Army. He was married to the love of his life, Carmel, for 64 years. She followed him to heaven 13 days later on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at the age of 90. Carmel was born August 18, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio. Herb, Carmel and their 4 children moved to Yuma in 1965. They owned Her-Mel Apartments while Herb worked for the City of Yuma and Carmel worked as an optical dispenser for local eye doctors. Herbert was an active model railroader and a genius with wood, making furniture and cabinets both large and small. Carmel was a member of Arizona Business Women's Association and active in St. Anne's Guild at St. John Neumann Church in the Foothills. They are survived by their 4 children: Gene Harries of Phoenix, Peppa Ruhl (Ed), Herb Harries (Nora), and Adella Ware (Grant) all of Yuma; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Herb was also survived by his sister, Lois Dollard and her 2 daughters of New Castle, Pennsylvania. Both Herbert and Carmel were kind, generous people and wonderful parents. We were lucky to have had them both for so long and they were a great example to us all. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church in the Foothills, 11545 E 40th St, Yuma; with a private interment to follow.
