Henry GasparianHenry Gasparian, 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 10th 2017 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Hank was born on October 21, 1925 in Tehran, Iran after his family escaped the Armenian Genocide and were scattered throughout Europe. At only 17 years old, Hank migrated to the US on the U.S.S. Mariposa, and after stopping in India and New Zealand landed in San Pedro, California on February 23rd, 1943. Shortly after coming to America, he attended Lafayette College, where he studied Mathematics. He was also the school's goalie on their first soccer team. Afterwards, he enlisted in the US Army. He was a part of the 2940th Engineer Tech Intelligence Team stationed in Germany during WWII. During his time in the military, Hank earned the Army of Occupation Medal and World War ll Victory Medal. After his service in the US Army, he became a pioneer in the development of computers. He worked on the first complier with Sperry Univac Corporation and Grace Hopper, followed by a 30 year career with IBM. Hank was an intelligent and well-rounded man. He spoke 7 languages including Armenian, Farsi, Hindi, Russian, French, German and English. Hank was also an avid Surf Fisherman, and would do so across the country for more than 60 years. His favorite spots were Treasure Shore State Park in Florida, and Montauk Point and Jones Beach Field 9 both in New York. Another passion of his was ham radio. Hank was a member of the American Radio Relay League for 40 years. His greatest passion, however, was his family. Hank was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was his son's Cub Scout troop leader and was always greatly proud of his family's accomplishments. Hank is preceded in death by: his parents, Michael and Amalia Gasparian; and his wife, Rouletta Gasparian. He is survived by: his son, Michael (Denise) Gasparian; his grandchildren, Richard (Caitlin) Gasparian and Jessica (Jeff) Kamenski; and great- granddaughter Lilly Gasparian.
