Helen Smith EnglandJune 4, 1932 - January 18, 2016Helen Smith England passed away on January 18, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 83. She was born on June 4, 1932 in Montpelier, Idaho to Elmer Thomas Smith and Sarah Taylor Smith. While young the family lived in several towns in Southern Idaho and Wyoming moving as needed for her fathers position with the Union Pacific Railroad. Helen graduated from Soda Springs High School and then the family moved to Pocatello where she attended Business College at Idaho State. It was there she met Charles England and they were later married in the Logan LDS Temple while Charles was on leave from the Navy while serving in the US Navy during the Korean War.Helen was a busy Homemaker and enjoyed sewing cloths for her daughters. She was named Pocatello Mother of the Year in 1958. She belonged to an active sewing club that often had family group vacations to Bear Lake or a Large cabin in Swan Valley. While raising her family Helen also had a long career and retired after 35 years with Farm Bureau Insurance and Zion's National Bank in Salt Lake City. The family lived in Pocatello, Idaho; Tulare, California; and finally settled in Salt Lake City in 1974. Helen loved her home and the view of the Utah Capital Building from her front window.Helen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings such as a teacher, Primary President, MIA President, and Relief Society President. After retirement she and Charles were called to serve in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Helen was also enjoyed working at the Salt Lake City Election Polls. She was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz and had season tickets for several years. She enjoyed hobbies like gardening, counted cross-stitching, Tole Painting, and traveling.Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Sarah Smith and sister Marilyn. She is survived by her children Diane (Troy) Murray of Pocatello, Id; Karen (Rcik) Scherbel Bountiful, Ut; and Gary (Kacie) England, Heber, Ut; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.Funeral arrangements are being made under the direction of Russon's Funeral Home in Bountiful, Utah and the service is planned for 11:00 am on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
