Hazel Trehern StevensHazel Trehern Stevens, 85, of Pensacola, Fla. passed away peacefully on Tues., Jan. 10, 2017 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Hazel was born on November 17th, 1931 in Mobile, Ala. to the late Leila Buzbee Trehern and Joseph Trehern. After high school, Hazel's sense of adventure took her all over the country with a magazine crew, ultimately landing her in Chicago, Ill., where she resided with her favorite aunt, Bessie, for the next three years, while working at Western Electric. Though Hazel loved Chicago, she said that every spring she would grow homesick for the smell of magnolias, the blaze of the azaleas and the loved ones she left behind in Alabama, and home she would head on the first available train. When the summer heat set in down south, she would return to Chicago where her job at Western Electric would always be waiting for her. In 1975, after raising her family in Pensacola, that same sense of adventure would take her to California and then on to Reno, Nevada where she would stay for the next 35 years. Though Hazel often returned to the south for extended stays with family and friends, she always returned to the Sierra Nevada mountains that she loved so much. Hazel retired from a 30-year civil service career with the Federal Government, during which time she garnered the respect and admiration of her supervisors and co-workers and recognition for her hard work and contributions.Hazel was predeceased by her parents, her maternal grandparents, Cornelia Pickett Boggan Buzbee and Samuel Houston Buzbee; her paternal grandparents, Irene "Rene" Cowart Trehern and Robert Benton Trehern; three brothers, Thomas Trehern, Carl Trehern, Jimmy Trehern, and one nephew, Barry Trehern. She is survived by two sisters, Lee Ervin (Bob), and Sherrie Sutton and one brother, Joe Trehern (Sharon); her children Cheryl Chaudron (Jerry Goodson), Kim Chaudron Chappell (Monte), Eric Chaudron (Andrea), six grandchildren, Jon, Ben, Chris, Amanda, Madeleine and Jack, and three great-grandchildren, Tristen and Aiden Hill and Camdyn Corbett; numerous nieces and nephews and good friends and her two furry sidekicks, Iggy and Trouble. In one final act of selflessness, and in keeping with her desire to help others, Hazel chose organ donation. A memorial celebration of Hazel's life will be announced later.
