Norma Jean Hausler of Tawas City passed away peacefully under the loving care of her family and hospice on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, age 90 years. Norma was born on Nov. 19, 1925 in Muskegon to Albert and Eldora (Coles) Bawkey. She graduated in the Class of 1943 from Hart High School and played the clarinet in the high school band during those years. Norma was a hard worker who held a variety of job positions during her working career. Most of her job titles were with bookkeeping and secretarial duties. She was a strong and devout Christian woman who was active in her church. When she lived in Hillman Norma attended regularly and played the piano at Hillman Episcopal Church. In her later years when she moved to the Tawas area, Norma joined Wilber United Methodist Church where she attended weekly and also played the piano. She will always be remembered for her love of gardening, flowers, and along with her special friend – avid rock collecting. Norma was also quite artistic and enjoyed painting with her group of friends at the Tawas Bay Artists. She will truly be missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love her. Norma is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Cheryl Hausler of Tawas City; three grandchildren that she absolutely adored, Steve, Annette and Thomas; four great grandchildren, Autumn, Jeaden, Devon and Kalen; one sister, Donna Sventko of Boyne City; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Norma was preceded in death by her father and mother and step-father, Albert Bawkey, and Donald and Eldora Watkins; her husband, Elwood Edward Hausler; and a step-brother, Royal Watkins. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. Her family will welcome friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
