Harry LeRoy "Lee" Hopkins of Longmont, died December 1, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital, Denver. He was 83. Lee, also affectionately known as "Hoppy", was born on January 23, 1933 in Denver to Ernest Cleo Hopkins and Molly Davis Hopkins. He was raised in Denver attending Denver East High. He served in the
U.S. Navy in the
Korean War. Lee returned to Colorado and had an extensive career with King Soopers, working in their produce department. He later worked part time at Sears. He married Nona Schell on December 8, l984 in Longmont. Lee had many varied interests, he enjoyed fishing throughout his life, was an exceptional cook, and loved baseball as a player and fan from a young age, following the Denver Bears and later the Rockies. He was also a Broncos season ticket holder. He was a long time and active member of New Creation Church, including head usher for a number of years. Preceding him in death are his parents, his son Mark Hopkins; his sister Gloria Santo Pietro, and former wife Roberta Eshom. Surviving are his wife of Longmont; daughters Tracey (Andy) Schoen of Covington, Kentucky, Lora Lee (Lance) Dowe of Frederick; step sons Joshua and Justin Schell of Longmont; step daughters JoEtte (Don) Krissel; Linda Lee; Cindy Neal-Stephens; Sharon Baker (Chris Torrez) all of Longmont; a sister Patricia (Rudy) Vigil both of Dacono and 14 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by man's best friend, Bronco. Visitation hours will be held at the Howe Community Room from 4-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 7. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 9 at New Creation Church. Inurnment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the HOPE Center.
