Harold RamseHarold Arley Ramse, age 92 of Pierre, South Dakota, died on January 16, 2017. Visitation will be 5-6pm, Thursday, January 19 at Lutheran Memorial Church. Online condolences may be made at www.isburgfuneralchapels.comHarold was born on July 25, 1925 on the family farm at Lennox, one of 7 children born to Gilbert and Tena (Bultena) Ramse. He went through 8th grade in country school at Lennox. He lived on the family farm until he went to the Army in 1945 where he spent 1945 and 1946 with the Occupied Forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged from the Army in November, 1946 and came back to Sioux Falls. He worked construction in Sioux Falls. Harold met Darlene Mews in 1948 in Sioux Falls and they were married in Colton, South Dakota in 1949. They continued to live in the Lennox and Sioux Falls area until they moved to Pierre in 1957 where they raised their five daughters.When Harold and Darlene moved to Pierre, he was a scraper operator for James & Beckman Construction for two years building the Oahe Dam. When the Dam was completed, he founded Ramse Construction and Ramse Investments. His company built many commercial buildings in the Pierre area, and Ramse Investments had numerous pieces of commercial and residential rental property throughout the years.Harold was a life member of the VFW and was past post commander and district commander. He was a member of the American Legion and he was appointed by Governor Richard Kneip and served on the South Dakota State Veteran's Commission for 16 years. He lobbied at the state legislature on behalf of veterans and was instrumental in providing the Vietnam Veteran's Bonus to veterans returning after their service in that war. Harold made the World War II Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC for Veteran's Day 2010 and reunited with an old friend that enlisted with him 65 years prior.Harold and Darlene owned a cabin in Custer State Park and for many years it was a place to gather for family and friends. He hosted many hunting parties at the cabin, and the cabin was "loaned" to people from across the United States.Harold and Darlene traveled the United States in their motorhome prior to purchasing a second home in Mission, Texas. They spent 20 years as snowbirds at their Texas home.Darlene passed away on August 19, 2011. Harold sold the family home and moved to Parkwood Apartments in Pierre until August 2017 when he moved to Primrose Assisted Living in Sioux Falls to be near his daughter.Grateful for having shared his life are his five daughters and their families: Sharon Williams and spouse, J. R. Askins of Burleson, Texas and son, Guy (Kristen) Williams of Spearfish, South Dakota & children, Chloe (John) Koval, Blake and Gavin Williams, and daughter, Jolene Williams of Ft. Worth, Texas & daughter, Makoy Barnes; Vicki Blake of Sioux Falls, and children, Darci (Chris) Miles & children, Meggan, Zachary, Kylie and Macie and son, Jerad Clelland of Sioux Falls, SD; Debra and spouse, Harvey Norris of Ft. Worth, Texas and son, Jeffrey Norris (fiancé Sharon Dell) of Fort Worth, Texas; Denise and spouse , Kyle Kuntz of E. Helena , Montana and children, Keenan (Megan) Blake of Lewistown, Montana and Kelleen Blake (fiance', Scott Davis) of Helena, Montana; and Melanie and spouse, Greg Turp of Box Elder, South Dakota and children, Shad (Brandy) Ludemann & children Alex and Stratten, of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, and Shawn (Sarah) Ludemann, of Rapid City, South Dakota. He is also survived by his siblings: Gladys Sorenson, Lorraine Jacobson, Marlyn Ramse, Dulare Ramse, and Maxine Bossman. Harold is also survived by a very special friend, Lillian Severyn of Pierre, South and her extended family.Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Darlene, and an infant granddaughter and his sister, Clara Pool.
