Harold "Jim" NyquistEast LansingOur beloved gentle giant, Harold "Jim" Nyquist of E. Lansing, formerly of Escanaba and Perry, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in Lansing, MI. He was born on March 28, 1933 in Escanaba, MI to John and Gertrude (Johnson) Nyquist. Jim graduated from Escanaba High School in the class of 1951 and went on to graduate from Michigan Tech with an engineering degree in 1955, where he was an All-American football player. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and rose to the rank of Captain. Jim retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation in 1995 after 39 years of service. He was proud to have a State of Michigan Roadside Park named in his honor, located just outside of St. Ignace, MI.He was proud of his U.P. roots, his Swedish heritage and fiercely loved his Packers and Cubbies. Jim is survived by his son, Jim (Shelly) Nyquist; brother, Don (Fay) Nyquist; grandchildren, Kelley (Aaron) Goldberg, Thomas (Ashley) Nyquist, and Katey (Brent) Balkema; great grandchildren, Addison, Ellie, Reese, Scarlett, Lucas and Soren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; beloved wife, Judy, son, Michael; sisters Margaret Morin, Grace Seidl and infant sister, Marie; brothers, John (Bud) and Clyde.The family would like to thank the staff at The Marquette and Riverwind Assisted Living for their friendship and compassionate care.
