HOPE, Dr. Harley F. Jr. son of the late Harley F. Hope Sr. and Dixie Harris Hope, of Tampa, passed away November 9, 2016. Harley was born on January 5, 1930 in Matewan, WV. He grew up in Matewan until attending Augusta Military Academy in Fort Defiance, VA where he graduated in 1947. He later attended West Virginia University where he met Jean Wood Edwards. They were married in 1952 and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year. Harley received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (DMD) from the University of Louisville College of Dentistry in 1955. The United States Air Force was awaiting and he chose to make it his career for the next 26 years. While serving, he attended Ohio State University where he completed an advanced dental degree in Prosthodontics. He rose to the rank of Colonel and retired from active duty in 1977 after a distinguished career in dentistry. His service assignments included Japan, Texas, Ohio, California, Alaska, and Florida. After retirement he was the Director of the dental hygiene department at St. Petersburg Junior College, and also spent several years in private practice in Tampa. He was a member of Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church, and later a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter, Gayle (Hope) Toselli and son-in-law, Dr. Pat Toselli of Allentown, PA; son, Dr. Timothy K. Hope and daughter-in-law, Karen Z. Hope of Ocala, FL; son, Harley F. Hope III of Tampa, FL ; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, November 14 from 3-5 pm at the Blount & Curry West Chapel, 6802 Silvermill Drive, Tampa, where a service will be celebrated at 5 pm. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Lifepath Hospice in Harley's memory.
