Gwen 'Bunnie' Herbst MIDDLETON-Gwen 'Bunnie' Herbst, age 79, formerly of Racine, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at her home. She was born on August 9, 1932 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon and Janet (Hicks) Ramsdell. Bunnie was united in marriage to Wesley 'Red' Herbst on December 18, 1954 in Janesville. He preceded her in death in 2009. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Bunnie was devoted to her family, church and friends and was an avid tennis player. Bunnie will be remembered for her strength and having an extremely thoughtful, gifted and upbeat nature. She is one of the founders of Restoring Hope Transplant House, a home away from home for those going through transplant. Bunnie had hoped to see it open during her lifetime. She is survived by her children, Pam (Scott) Nelson of Escanaba, MI; Brian (Cindy) Herbst of Madison, Brad (Bev) Herbst of North St. Paul, MN., Todd (Betty) Herbst of West Middleton; seven grandchildren, Eric Hybert, Karen (Dave) Bushre, Brittany (Caleb) Johnson, Kate Nelson, Stefanie Herbst, Jack Nelson and Robert Nelson; a great-grandson, Griffin Johnson and many cherished relatives and friends, In addition to her husband, Wesley Herbst, Bunnie was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Richard Ramsdell. Memorial services will be held at ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 6101 University Ave., Madison at Noon on Saturday, January 14, 2012 with the Reverend Harold Zimmick presiding. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
