Gloria B. GonzalesVentura, CAOur dear mother, Gloria B. Gonzales, passed away quietly on Friday morning, September, 8, 2017 in Ventura.Gloria was born on October 16, 1930 to the union of Victoria Aguirre and Alejandro Baca in Saticoy, where she lived most of her life. Gloria attended Agua Manantil Elementary School in Saticoy and local high schools.Gloria was involved in local politics, calling her county supervisor, state senators, and assemblymen whenever there was a problem that required their assistance in the community. As a small business woman, in 1978, she hosted former San Francisco Mayor Senator George Moscone and, in 1980, hosted Joseph Kennedy III at her bar resturante "La Gloria" on 5th Street in Saticoy.Mom cooked like a professional, her specialities being menudo, "Saticoy Special" and Sopa de Arroz with peas. Many family celebrations were held at "La Gloria."Gloria was an excellent seamstress, as well as talented with knitting and crocheting. She was an ardent supporter of POW/MIA's, having lost her brother Alex in the Korean War and her nephew Richard in the Vietnam War.Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Calletano, her daughter, Dolores "Lola" Barrios, and her son, Eddie Payan.Gloria is survived by her daughters: Victoria Martinez and husband Peter, Olivia Payan, Roberta Payan, and Evelyn Payan; her son: Tommy Payan and wife Cyndy; and her son-in-law Ronnie Barrios, Sr. Gloria has 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Gloria's surviving siblings are Victoria Garcia and husband Jack, Daniel Baca, and George Baca.Family and friends are invited to a Most Holy Rosary and a Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
