Glennis R. Russell Obituary

Jan 17, 1932 - Oct 10, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Glennis Ruth (Silver) Russell 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, October 10, 2016. She was born on January 17, 1932, in Wade, Maine, the daughter of potato farmers Clarence and Ruth Silver. Also known lovingly as Mom, Grammy, Mimi, and Ma, Glennis is survived by her husband, Otis F. Russell, Jr., 8 children, 19 grand-children, and 4 great-grandchildren. Glennis spent her younger days helping on her family farm, singing and playing piano in the Dunntown Advent Christian Church, and riding her horse, Jazz. As a cheerleader at Washburn High basketball games, she met and married the team captain, Otis, Jr. They settled in the wooded neighborhood of North Walpole where they lived for 53 years. Glennis greatest devotion was to loving and raising her family, as well as nurturing and caring for 100s of other children and youth. She ran a home daycare for 27 years. Otis and Glennis provided 30+ years of active and committed service to the youth program at Trinity Community Church, Norwood, their long-time church family. Glennis had a love of music which she instilled in all her children and grandchildren from an early age. With her quiet strength and humble nature she encouraged her childr en to learn, laugh, and experience life. Above all, Glennis showed what it means to serve God and others by her integrity and steadfast love. Even in her declining years, while suffering from Alzheimer's, she continued to bless others in her fellowship with family and friends, praying, enjoying music, and visiting horses. She is dearly missed by Otis, husband of 63 years, her family, beloved friends, her church community, and those who cared so lovingly for her at Brookdale Memory Care for the past two years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Glennis memory may be made to New Sound to provide a special Ma & Pa Russell VIP Soul Festival Experience exclusively for the youth program at Trinity Community Church, PO Box 959, Newburyport, MA 01950. A Celebration of Life for Glennis will be held at Trinity Community Church, 234 Walpole Street, Norwood, Massachusetts, on January 14, 2017, at 1 pm.
