Jane Bond (aged 88) passed away on May 5th at 12:27 pm at home in Cowley, Middx with her daughter and niece by her side.
Gertrude Maud Jane Bond was born in Isleworth on August 7th, 1929. She was the middle daughter of Rose and Fred, the sister of Fred, Olive, Doris and Bob, the wife of George, a close sister-in-law to Daisy and Willy, aunt to Meta, Lee, Sandra, Andre, Hazel and Gail, the mother of Sam and Grandma Mumpsy to Olivia and Tess.
Jane lived in London until the fifties when she moved to Shrewsbury. She loved Shropshire so much that she returned when her husband retired so that her daughter could grow up in the place she had been so happy.
Jane was originally an usherette at Greenford Granada. She gave up work to look after her daughter, but returned to work in her late forties to become a batwoman to the Colonel of the Light Infantry in Shrewsbury - a position that made her very proud.
Jane was fun-loving and always up for an adventure. Later in life, she spent many months in Washington DC, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Texas staying with her daughter and her grandchildren. She loved the U.S. and gained many American friends.
In 2011 Jane returned to her West London roots, moving closer to her family. These last few years were extremely happy ones for Jane, and even with failing health she remained upbeat and determined.
Among other things, Jane will be remembered for her storytelling ability, her gardening prowess and her delicious steak and mushroom puddings.
A celebration of Jane's life will take place at Breakspear Crematorium, Breakspear Road, Ruislip, Middx, HA4 7SJ on Thursday, May 31st at 2:30 pm. The service will be conducted by Mr. Martin Shaw and afterward, the family will be sharing their many memories of Jane at The Woodman Pub, Breakspear Road, Ruislip, Middx, HA4 7SE.
Sam would like to thank the palliative care team, the many members of the NHS who nursed Jane towards the end, and especially Jane's niece, Pat, for her love and kindness. If you so wish, donations in Jane's memory would be welcomed for Macmillan Cancer Support. https://www.macmillan.org.uk/
