Gertrude "Gert" Foret Forrestier Chiasson, 79, a native of Raceland and resident of Lockport, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014.Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday at Falgout Funeral Home in Lockport. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Savior Church in Lockport, with burial in the church cemetery.She is survived by her husband, Erjie Chiasson; daughters, Stephanie Dandry and husband, Randy, of Raceland, and Sheila Ballou Adams and husband, Camille, of Raceland; sons, Sidney Forrestier and wife, Peggy, of Thibodaux, and Stuart Forrestier and wife, Karen, of Gheens; grandchildren, Jennifer Dandry, Josh Dandry, John Forrestier and wife, Sarah, John Cherry and wife, Kelly, Anna Ballou, Nicholas Ballou, Kelcey Forrestier, Addi Forrestier, and Maci Forrestier; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Callais, Devyn Cavalier, Samantha Cherry, Jade Dandry, and Jonah Dandry; and siblings, Vickie Chiasson, May Catherine Young, Allen Foret, Clarence Foret, Donald Foret, and Leonard Foret.She was preceded in death by her first husband, John A. Forrestier; parents, Davis and May Pertuit Foret; stepmother, Anna Chedotal Foret; son-in-law, Bill Ballou; brothers, Norris and Samuel Foret; and sisters; Alice Mae Pierce, Enid Dimarco, and Lydia Folse.Gert was born on Sept. 14, 1934, to Davis and May Foret. At the young age of 12, she lost her mother and helped raise her brothers and sisters. She married John A. Forrestier in 1952, and they were the proud parents of four children. In 1976, her husband, John, passed away, and a few years later, she married Erjie Chiasson. On April 28, they celebrated 36 years of marriage.Her love for family was strong; anyone who knew her knew her family. A beautiful lady with many talents, she was a loving and faithful wife, loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, good cook, seamstress and gardener. As a young mother, she was very active in the Parent Teacher's Association, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and other organizations that involved her children. She loved working in her yard where she took pride in growing beautiful flowers, especially roses, which she placed for many years at the altar of Holy Savior.She fought life's last days with dignity and grace. Mama, you will be missed, but we know you are alive in the arms of our redeemer, Jesus Christ.
