Montville - Gerard Laurent Gingras Sr., 94, passed away peacefully at Orchard Grove Healthcare and Rehab in Uncasville on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016.He was born on Aug. 11, 1922, to the late Aristide and Bernadette (Dutilly) Gingras in West Shefford, Quebec, Canada. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945 as a barber in Saipan.On May 26, 1943, he was united in marriage to Mary (Allen) in Uncasville. She predeceased him.After returning from the service, he opened Jerry's Barber Shop at Uncasville four corners where he worked until he retired. He enjoyed cooking, clamming, sailing, writing poetry and talking with folks.Gerard is survived by his son, Gerard L Gingras Jr. and wife, Lucylee, of Vermont; daughter, Arlene Melgey of Connecticut; granddaughter, Melissa Melgey of Connecticut; and numerous nieces and nephews.Besides his wife, Mary, he was also predeceased by his brother, Raymond; and sisters, Rita, Lucille and Teresa.Services will be private at the convenience of the immediate family.To leave an online condolence or share a memory, please visit www.montvillefuneralhome.com
