George WeaverAge: 94 • South BurlingtonGeorge Donald Weaver, passed peacefully from heart failure on April 2, 2017 with his loving daughters by his side, listening to Big Band music while residing at the Vermont Respite House in Colchester, VT.George, known to all as "Don" was born on July 8, 1922 in Watertown, MA. He often spoke fondly of his happy childhood where his neighborhood friends were life long. He spent his summers in Waldoboro, Maine with his many cousins as well as traveling the back roads of New England and New York with his mother. They took in auctions along the way instilling at a young age his love and appreciation for antiques.Don's love of golf began early as his father traveled as a golf representative for Spaulding Equipment. He began as a caddy at a local country club and loved playing the sport well into his 80's.Don attended Watertown High School and enrolled in the Business program at Boston University when the bombing of Pearl Harbor occurred. As he later shared, his buddies and he enlisted in the military service the next day. He took great pleasure when he was assigned to the aviation training program and spoke fondly of the various aircrafts he flew. When World War II ended, Don returned to Boston University to finish his studies on the newly created GI bill.Don met the love of his life, Madeline T. Warren on a blind date and they married on December 21, 1951. The young couple eventually left Massachusetts for Rutland, VT where their son DG. (Donald George) and daughter Mary Jo were born. When Don's family re-located to South Burlington, They settled in Mayfair Park, where daughters Martha and Peggy were born. The family lived happily in Mayfair Park for more than 20 years.While Don had several professional endeavors, his greatest pleasure was joining the University of Vermont staff as the Director of Purchasing. He savored being a member of University community and took great pride when three of his children graduated from U.V.M. During his retirement years, Don and Madeline enjoyed the shores of Lake Champlain, Cape Cod, Maine, Captiva and St. Thomas.Don was most content when he was surrounded by his family who adored his gentle manner, quiet wisdom and quick wit! Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, Madeline of 63 years and his son D.G., who left his children Tim (Liz) Megan(fiancé: Gus DeGuise), Molly and their son Justin, and Peggy Weaver (Jim Nolting) and their children, Madeline and Dylan Weaver-Nolting, and Mary Jo Weaver and her children Isaiah, and Hannah Benes.Don's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the V.N.A. Respite House's skillful and compassionate staff for the excellent care they gave to both Madeline and Don in their final days.Per Don's request there will be no service. The family invites you to join them for Calling Hours Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Ready Funeral Home and Cremation Services South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington, VT.
