Those we love dont go away, they walk beside us every day
George DeShields Hererra Dr, age 80, died December 9th, 2018 at his Baltimore home after a long battle with bone cancer.
George Sr is had been preceded in passing by his devoted wife Nelly DeShields, survived by his two children: George DeShields-Hererra Jr and Candice DeShields. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
George Sr. is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals including Silver Star. He grew up in Baltimore, Maryland the only son of Warren Hererra-DeShields and Viola Perry. As a child, he learned to cook from his father, who ran the local diner. As he grew older, he began to take over many of the duties from his father, whose deteriorating health had left him in charge of the family business. After the death of his father at the young age of 52, he took over the diner full time, where he eventually expanded the business to include several locations. His success in business can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural ability. He took pride in the fact that he always left his customers satisfied.
He served three years with distinction as a pilot in Vietnam. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the military never left him, as friends and family will attest.
Services will be held this Saturday, December 15th, 2018 at 3 pm at Union Bethel Methodist Church in Randallstown, MD
