Mahoney, GenevieveGenevieve Elizabeth Mahoney, age 97 of Suring, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017. Gen was born on Saturday, August 23 1919 in Beaver Dam, WI to the late Agid and Anna (Kolb) Miller, the seventh child in a family of eleven children. She truly enjoyed living on the farm with her siblings and recorded many of their escapades in a book in her later years. Gen graduated from Beaver Dam High School with the Class of 1937. She then attended Mayville Normal School and was a rural school teacher for 2 years.Gen met her future husband, Robert T. Mahoney, in the seventh grade at St. Peter's School. They were married April 17, 1943 at the University Chapel in Madison. They traveled to San Francisco, CA where Gen worked in a military supply office while Bob flew Navy torpedo planes off of carriers in the Pacific throughout the war. When the war ended, they returned to the Beaver Dam area and raised a family. A new job had them relocating to Green Bay in 1970 and after three years there, they finally settled in Suring in 1973 where she resided until her death.Gen was always willing to help with any project from church, where she taught 5th grade religious education and was secretary of the Altar Society. She volunteered at the Suring meal site, the nursing home, and the Gillett Food Pantry.Gen is survived by her children, Carleen (Lynn) Hasenstab of Burnett, Mary (Jim) Sanderson of Columbus, Ann (Dave) Knutson of Beloit, and Jim (Karen) Mahoney of Suring; nine grandchildren, Paul (Julie) Hasenstab, Renae (Shane) Dymond, Martha (Brad) Lewke, John Sanderson, Emily Knutson, Pat Knutson, Bob Mahoney, Ryan Mahoney, and Kate Mahoney; eight great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Kathleen Sutton and Esther Miller. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; siblings, Arnold (Marge), Andrew (Celia), Norb (Esther), George (Ruth), Ray (Norma), Carl (Marie), Marcella (Melvin) Indermuehle, Anna Mae (Ralph) Plantenberg, Robert (Lorraine) and Carol Miller; mother and father-in-law, James and Catherine (Niehoff) Mahoney; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Jean and Mike Myers, Elizabeth and Walter (Herm) Hothen, Harland (Suttie) Sutton.Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring from 4 to 8 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm with Sister Marla Clercx officiating. Visitation will resume Monday, June 19, 2017 at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home from 8:30 am to 9:45 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place following the visitation at 10 am at St. Michael Catholic Church in Suring with Father Dean Dombroski and Sister Marla Clercx officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. William Wittman for his courteous care of Mom and Woodland Village Nursing Home in Suring for all their help and care in Mom's final days.Mom always looked for humor and wanted everyone to know she lived 35,723 days or 97 years, 9 months, and 20 days and she is proud of it.Mom told a friend a while ago that she would like to be remembered in this way, "I came into this world a farm girl, I lived my life as a farm girl and I died a farm girl."
