RACINE - Gene Douglas Doug Hoff, 65, died peacefully at home on Friday, March 21, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 12, 1948, in Elgin, IL, to Gene F. and Laverne M. (nee: Ludwig) Hoff. On Aug. 28, 1971, Doug was united in marriage to the love of his life, Bernardine Bernie Commare. Doug attended Northern Illinois University, where he received a BS in Physics and a MBA. He was employed by CASE New Holland as a Systems Analyst for 24 years, retiring in 2009. Since moving to Racine in 1985, he was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart Parish, where he served in many capacities over the years, including usher and trustee, as well as Parish Council and the Marriage Preparation program. Doug also was a member of the Racine InterFaith Coalition. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and the Chicago Bears, but above all, he loved any time spent with his family. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed. Surviving are his loving wife of 42 years, Bernie; their children, Ethan (Elizabeth) Hoff; Sharon Prevost; and Allison (John) Perugini; nine grandchildren, Alexander, Natalie, Ryan, Kayla, Jacob, Mia, John, William and Frank; parents, Gene and Laverne Hoff; siblings, Bob Hoff; Karen (Rick) Sundquist; and Pat (Ernie) Link; mother-in-law, Julie Commare; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Art (Mary Ellen) Commare; Kevin (Joan) Commare; Mary (Mick) Tinnon; Char (Rob) Vuillaume; Don (Maria) Commare; Barb Commare (Tom Olander); former son-in-law, Jon Prevost; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by father-in-law, Arthur Commare; grandparents, John and Marilla Hoff; Fred, Gladys and Pauline Ludwig; and nephews, Anthony Tinnon and Carl Vuillaume. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 27, 2014, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., with Rev. Ricardo Martín-Pinillos officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 26, from 4-7 p.m. at the church in Haban Hall and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at a later date.
