SUMP, Gazelle BauerGazelle Bauer Sump, 95, died peacefully on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at Legend Oaks North Austin in the loving presence of her sweetheart Bill Head, Sr. Gazelle was born on August 11, 1921, in Bebe, Texas. She was the first of five daughters born to Gus Carl Bauer and Bertha Bahlmann. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Roberta, Annie Lee and Doris. She is survived by her youngest sister, Mary. After graduating from high school in Gonzales she moved to Austin at the urging of her mother to attend business school. She used her business skills to serve the State of Texas in Gov. Price Daniel's office and the General Land Office. She also developed an award winning business as a sales representative for the Vivienne Woodard Cosmetics Company. Her extended family, including her eight nieces and nephews Cheryl, Barbara, Marvin Jr., Mike, Mark, Sandra, Janet and James, remained a constant lifelong focus for Gazelle who remembered each of them with thoughtful cards on birthdays and every holiday. She was a woman of strong Christian faith, beginning each day with devotional readings and prayers for everyone she loved and those who needed special prayers. She dedicated decades of service to her church in retirement, including working every week to prepare church bulletins, serving on the altar committee and helping the church business office to mail out contribution statements. She could be found each Sunday in "her" pew with her Pew Pals, including Jimmie Sue and Dick, Dot and David. Gazelle enjoyed traveling with her good friends Delta and Olivia throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. She felt blessed to see so much of the world. In later years, Gazelle found new joy in the activities she participated in and the friendships she made at Parsons House Austin and Legend Oaks North Austin, finding a particularly close, supportive friendship with her roommate Mary. She loved dominoes, looking forward to the weekly games she and her very close friends Debbie and Drew played. She never passed up a bingo game, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and watched Wheel of Fortune each night. Gazelle leaves a legacy of love, grace, generosity, kindness and a sweet smile for all.
