Gary N. Baxter, age 70, passed away May 15, 2013 in Oscoda. He was born on Nov. 21, 1942 to the late Horace (Red) and Harriet Woods Baxter. Gary was a graduate of Davison High School and as a young man he loved to travel, ski and sail with his friends. He worked at and retired from AC Spark Plug and it was through his work that he met and enjoyed a host of lifelong friends. Gary resided in Flint up until his retirement and upon retirement, he moved permanently to Oscoda where he had spent many years vacationing. Up North, along the shore of Lake Huron, was his favorite place to be. Gary loved having company. His interests were varied from the history of ships on the Great Lakes and oceans to whatever peaked his interest at the time. Gary was also a member of the Oscoda Eagles. He was a very special person, full of good humor, loved life and enjoyed people. Gary had a wonderful quality of making friends and keeping in touch by either making his "rounds" or by calling them on the phone. He leaves behind his twin sister and her husband, Gail and Larry Stimson; nephew, Mark Stimson; step-daughter, Teresa (Dave) McGinnes and their son, Brennt; cousins, Arlene Boggs and her daughter, Jeannette and son, Mike, Karen Calvert and her son, Jimmy, Merelene Doyel and her daughter, Tammy, David Woods, Randy Woods and God-daughter, Olivia Salisbury (granddaughter of Sherry and Frank Canterbury and daughter of Holly and Heath Salisbury). He is also survived by so many very close friends who cherish the time spent with him. A special thanks to Dr. Nicklas and Mary at U of M Heart Failure Clinic. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his cousins, Dale Calvert and Paul Calvert. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. on July 12 at his home in Oscoda with a picnic and sharing of memories on the beach.
