Gary L. Macarty Obituary

Sep 13, 1936 - Sep 23, 2014

This obituary is administered by:
Gary L. Macarty Sr.September 13, 1936 - September 23, 2014As the day faded into twilight, his soul traveled to a new life beyond. It left his troubled body that was racked with pain and suffering and traveled farther than the billowy clouds could extend. As he passed the blue skies, a new day had begun. Gary L. Macarty Sr., 78, Pocatello, passed away on September 23,2014 and his new journey has begun. Gary was born on September 13,1936 to John and Audrey Daggett Macarty in Wenatchee, Washington. He was the first of five children born to the railroad couple. In 1957, in the Grace Lutheran Church in Cashmere, Washington, Gary married the love of his life, Sharon Slowe. They welcomed three children into their lives. Gary Jr. was the first to arrive in 1959, Pamela next in 1963, and Brian in 1974. Gary Sr. was an avid outdoorsman and taught his sons the greatness and joy he experienced hunting and fishing and they spent a great deal of time doing those things together. His other loves were camping and boating. His "hotel" was his beloved boat and many nights were spent sleeping under the moonlight while its beams danced on the water. His favorite places included Colter Bay at the foot of Mt. Moran, Jackson Lake, Lake Yellowstone, Redfish Lake and Island Park Reservoir. Gary and his family enjoyed waking up in the mornings to the birds singing and fish jumping and wildlife splashing in the water. Gary and Sharon raised a variety of animals on their land and had a meticulous yard and property grounds which surround their home. The property was beautiful, green and weed free because of Gary's and Sharon's green thumbs and hard work. Hard work was a normal part of every day for Gary until his health began declining. He retired as a line driver from Garrett Freightlines and also retired as a bus driver from the INEL. He was fondly referred to as a "Site See-er" by his granddaughter, Brandie, when she was just a few years old. Gary rarely missed a day of work and won several safe driving awards from both of his employers. Gary was a former member of Keystone Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason and was a Shriner. He was active in these until he was transferred to Denver, Colorado for his employment with Garrett's. Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon, his son Gary Jr., daughter Pamela (Robin) Croft, and son Brian (Johna) Macarty. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandie (Brandon) Jacobia, Janae (Terrick) Wartenbe, Jacob (Christina) Croft, Joshua (Tawni) Croft, Lance Croft, Colby Macarty and Kaden Macarty, and two great- grandchildren Bryton Jacobia and Braxton Jacobia. His third great-grandchild, Noah Wartenbe will be arriving in a few weeks. Other survivors include daughter-in-law Linda Macarty, and close family friend Steve Fisher, Gary Sr.'s mother Audrey, brother Larry (Brenda) Macarty, John (Rourke) Macarty Jr., sister Shirley (Max) Ogren, sister Sheila "Tina" (Russ) Mansfield, uncle Harold (Joyce) Macarty, and aunt Bonnie Macarty Eschwig. He was preceded in death by his father John Macarty Sr., his father-in-law Ben Slowe, and his mother-in-law Delphine Slowe. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church, 1350 Baldy, with Pastor Jonathan Dinger officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, 232-0542, and one hour prior to services at the Church. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.cornelisonfh.com.
