Gary L. HartshornFREMONT: Gary L. Hartshorn, 75, of Fremont, OH passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, OH. He was born on September 10, 1941 in Dayton, OH, the son of Edward and Alma (Hall) Hartshorn. He was a 1960 graduate of Monroe Central High School in West Manchester, OH.Gary served in the U.S. Army from May 15, 1961 to September 10, 1962 and was awarded the Sharpshooter (Rifle), Marksman (Pistol) and Expert (.45 SMG) Badges.Gary married Cynthia Franks on October 2, 1992 in Fremont and she survives. He was a Supervisor and Lead Setup Person at Whirlpool Corporation, retiring after thirty-six years of service. He had previously worked at Dayton Marine prior to Whirlpool. Gary also drove school bus for Clyde Green Springs Schools after his retirement.Gary was a Life member, member of the burial detail and Past Commander of the Fremont American Legion. He umpired and coached baseball and coached and refereed basketball. Gary enjoyed golfing and bowling. He tried out for the Reds after High School and remained a lifelong fan. Gary played Santa for several years and was a setup man for the Booze Brothers band.Gary is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Cynthia Hartshorn, Fremont, OH; children, Jason (Heather) Hartshorn, Brookville, OH, Rachel Hartshorn, Clyde, OH; step children, Keith (Fiona) Norton, Madison Heights, MI, Jason Norton, Southfield, MI, Melinda (Phil) Rubio, West Bloomfield, MI; grandchildren, Seth, Landon, Rayna, Kira, Tanner, Danielle, Elizabeth, Carolina and Derek.He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Joseph Kinney; siblings, Karen Coffman and Gerald Hartshorn.Visitation: Tuesday from 3 - 5 pm and 7 - 9 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E.
