October 20, 1953 - September 10, 2016 Gail L. Margolis, Esq. passed away on September 10, 2016, at the age of 62, following a brief illness. Gail was born on October 20, 1953, in Brooklyn. She was a lifelong MLB and Yankees fan and had an unequaled flair for jewelry, laughter (with a biting wit), and friendship. Gail attended UCLA and ultimately earned a bachelor's degree in business from St. Mary's College of California in 1978, an MBA from the University of Dallas in 1979, her JD degree from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law graduating cum laude, and a diploma in tax law from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1986. Gail worked for Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood, first in administration, and then as Chief Counsel (1981 - 1995) and Gail served as President (1995 - 2000) of the Margolis Law Firm, which she founded. Governor Gray Davis appointed Gail Deputy Director of the California Department of Health Services, where she was responsible for six million beneficiaries of the State's Medi-Cal Program and a $27 billion budget (2000 to 2002). Gail was CEO of the Scleroderma Research Foundation in Santa Barbara (2002 - 2003) and from 2004 until her death, she served as Vice President, Government and Public Policy at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She cared deeply about providing quality health care to children and the poor. She was on the Board of the Venice Family Clinic and chair of the March of Dimes Los Angeles Public Advocacy Committee (2005-06) and her public service was recognized by Governor Pete Wilson, the California Legislature, and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Gail is survived by her brother, Richard Margolis (Lisa Holly) of Philadelphia, PA, and her nephew, Robert Margolis, of Tallahassee, FL. A memorial service is scheduled for 9/25/16 at 11 AM at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery, 6001 W. Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA, 90045. Afterwards will be a gathering at 1PM at Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club, 13589 Mindanao Way, Marina Del Ray, CA 90292.
