George E. Tugana, age 97, died on November 27, 2016 at his home. He was a resident of West Chicago, Illinois for 50 years. George was born on December 22, 1918 and raised in Cicero, Illinois. He was married to his first wife, Gladys, for 43 years until her death from cancer in 1984. Mr. Tugana served in the United States Army, 78th division, 309 regiment, company I during WWII. He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received and was also given a Bronze Star metal in the European Theater for valor. George was in the first complete division to cross the Rhine River and establish a beachhead on the east side of the Rhine. George worked for Western Electric Co. (Lucent) for 44 years. In his later years he was the Regional Department Head for Clerical Operations in Service Centers in the Midwest. He was a volunteer in many organizations, most notable he was repairing machines for Talking Books (Library of Congress) for Pioneers of America from 1985 - present. This in itself was remarkable because he suffered from Macular Degeneration since 1993. George was a member of the VFW from 1946 - present and a member of the Lions Club for 43 years. Mr. Tugana was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kristina Tugana; his brothers Charles and John; his sisters Anna (Suchomel), Betty (Pelch), Sylvia (Vistain) (Wieczorik) and Eleanor (Ross). Survivors include his loving wife, Dorothy; son, Brian Tugana (Susan); grandson, Gavin (Laura); uncle of many nieces and nephews.
