Fred received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his volunteerism from the Easter Seals. Fred was also a Red Cross Blood Donor and donated over 40 gallons of blood throughout his life.Fred was a lifelong #1 fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. Fred worked as a Captain of the ushers at Camp Randall Stadium for 40 years. One of Fred's favorite stories was of attending cocktail parties at Vince Lombardi's home in Green Bay where he met many former Packers including Bart Starr, Ray Nitschke, Paul Hornung, Herb Adderly, Willie Wood, Willie Davis and Henry Jordan. Fred lived next door to Badger coach Milt Bruhn and his wife Helen in Madison for 18 years. Fred also loved golf and never missed the PGA tour. He watched week in and week out for many years enjoying all of the great golfers with his favorite being Wisconsin native Steve Stricker. He played until he was unable to and worked part-time after retirement at Studebaker Golf Course where he really enjoyed sharing his love of golf with the local children. Fred was also a big fan of all of his grandchildren's sports. He followed them all and attended as many games as he could. He was always seen in the stands at local basketball courts, Chet Waggoner Little League, Pop Warner and Washington High School football games and wrestling matches. As much as a Badger fan as he was he has also been seen cheering for another team this fall and was even overheard yelling “ROLL TIDE” a time or two! Just don't tell Bucky. In lieu of flowers, we ask that Memorial Contributions be made to Easter Seals.A memorial service will be scheduled in the future. Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, is handling arrangements.
