PARK CITY-Haney, Fred James Howard 88, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at Kechi United Methodist Church, 4533 E. 61st Street, Kechi. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Kechi Cemetery. Fred was born on April 6, 1927, in Kearney, NE, the son of Fred D. and Elsie Mable (Schnacker) Haney. He graduated from Lisco High School, NE and then worked in his early years as a crop duster in Julesburg, CO. Fred served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class. It was there he met and married Betty Jean Riggs on September 2, 1951. Together, they had two children, David and Brian. He held numerous position after they moved to Wichita and eventually retired as an Engineer at Cessna in 1987. Fred was actively involved in his church, the Shepherd's Center, a wood carvers club, and Kansas Author's Club. Fred's family remembers fondly his love for being creative and using his hands to create beautiful pieces of work. Whether it be writing music, poetry and stories, or completing wood working projects, Fred had a gift for expressing himself through his art. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Betty (Riggs) Haney; his son, Brian D. and wife, Glenna Haney; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; as well as their son, David Haney. A memorial has been established with Kechi United Methodist Church.
