Fred FreyMANSFIELD: Fred Frey, 79, of Mansfield passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Crestwood Care Center. He was born on September 23, 1937 in Franzfeld, Yugoslavia. He was the beloved son of Friedrich and Johanna (Ulmer) Frey.Fred moved here from Yugoslavia at the young age of fifteen, and became a citizen of the United States in the 60's. He was a good provider, dedicated husband, loving father and doting grandfather. Fred was a family man who greatly enjoyed quality time spent together no matter what it was they were involved in doing. Some of his favorite family activities were playing board games, spending time at Mifflin Lake or fun Sunday drives. His family was his life. Often times you would find Fred watching one of his favorite sports teams playing on television while listening to another team at the same time. He was an avid Ohio sports fan. When he was younger, he had a love for sports as he loved to bowl, was on a semi pro soccer team, liked to golf and play softball. He truly loved anything sports related, and was even involved as a coach of his son's sports teams.Left to cherish the many fond memories that were shared with Fred are his children, Tim Frey of Arizona, D. Chris (David) Wright of Kentucky, JoAnn (Raymond) Wolfe and Patty (Bryan) Lutz both of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Aimee Boyer, April (Robert) Saccomano, Ryan (Melissa Metcalf) Pratt, Cory Wolfe, Brandon Lutz, Bradley (Courtney) Lutz, and Bryce Lutz; five great-grandchildren, Gunner Hofer, Riley Southard, Morgan Turney, Kolby Lutz, and Alayna Lutz; a sister, Johanna Keiser of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews that he dearly loved. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Calhoun) Frey; a son-in-law, Bill Boyer; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Frey; and an aunt, Kristine Hildenbrand.A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1-2pm on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. A memorial service officiated by Pastor Kevin Evans will be follow at 2pm. He will be laid to rest in Franklin Cemetery.
