Fraser Muir Moffat III, 85, of Montrose, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2015 at home with family at his side. He was born on July 10, 1929 in New York, NY, to the late Fraser Muir Moffat, Jr. and Lydia (Comstock) Moffat.He is survived by his wife, Marion (Stinze) Moffat; his son and wife, Philip and Polli (Carstensen) Moffat; grandchildren, Jacob and Leila; and his daughter, Isabelle; sister, Lydia Moffat Emil; and niece and husband, Adrianne de Polo and Peter Becker; grand niece and nephew, Carina and Key; cousin Barbara Clifford and her daughter, Jennie Clifford and family.From childhood, Fraser spent the happiest summers in Montrose. After attending Exeter Academy until 1947 and graduating from Williams College Class of 1951, his military duty as Lt. Cmdr. of the US Navy, his business career took him to Europe where he met his wife Marion Stinze of Hamburg, Germany. They married and raised a family. In Hamburg, he was active as a church warden at the Church St. Thomas a Becket. He also was an active officer in the Naval reserve up until the late 1970s. On retirement, as a stockbroker from Lehman Brothers, he returned to Montrose in 1995, making his permanent residence in the house that once belonged to his maternal grandfather, George Carlton Comstock. Despite his age he frequently made the Atlantic crossing to visit with his children and grandchildren, his last visit being this past March.Fraser was very much a part of the Montrose community. Following family tradition, he was President of the Montrose Club from 1999 to 2006. He was active assisting services at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was also an active member of the VFW and Foreign Legion, and for many years marched in the Memorial Day parade. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Paul Towers and Rev. Charles Cesaretti officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Montrose Cemetery.
