Frank A. Sis, 86Bethesda, MDJan. 30, 1930 - Dec. 24, 2016Of Bethesda, MD passed away on Saturday, December 24th, 2016. He was born on January, 30th, 1930 in St. Cloud, MN to Frank X. and Crescentia Sis. He attended St. Cloud's St. Mary's elementary school and then St. Cloud Cathedral High School, where he was Co-Salutatarian & Co-Captain of the football and hockey teams. He attended St. John's University in Collegeville, MN where he graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in English & Philosophy. He then attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he received an M.A. in International Relations before moving on to Yale University, where he received an M.A. in Political Science.He was then drafted and served in the U.S. Army as a reporter in Ft. Bliss, TX from 1955-57, before working as a reporter and City Editor for the News Pilot in San Pedro, CA from 1957-60. He subsequently joined the United Press International in Los Angeles, CA as a newsman before moving to San Diego, where he was the UPI Night Manager, and a Correspondent for the Medical Tribune from 1961-68. In 1968, he moved to Washington, DC where he volunteered for the Edmund Muskie Vice Presidential Campaign as well as the George Rawlings Senatorial Campaign. In 1968 he became a reporter for the "Machinist Weekly" of the International Association of Machinists in Washington D.C.In 1971, Frank joined the U.S. Government, Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in Bethesda, MD as an Information Specialist after initially working as a consultant. He worked for the next 20 years as an Information Officer at various offices of the Public Health Service, Health Resources and Services Administration. During his illustrious career, he received the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary's Certificate of Appreciation and numerous other citations and commendations, before retiring in 1991. He was a longtime member of the National Press Club. He was also a world traveler and member of the century club, having visited more than 100 countries in his travels spanning over 45 years. During his retirement he was active in his community and spent over a decade assisting local charitable organizations such as The Senior Connection and Bethesda Help.Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Cresentia, his sister-in-law Bernice Sis, a niece Marlene Owen, and a nephew Stephen Haus. He is survived by his brother Robert of Waite Park, MN, nieces Sharon Elsenpeter, Gale West, Janice Ross, Maria Kuss, Heidi Carlstedt, Jacinta Sis, Juanita Sis, Leticia Blommel and a nephew Christopher Sis and their families. Thank you to all the caring friends, especially Ann Reppun and Michelle Fouts of California who helped immensely in the final month of Frank's battle with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Services will be held at St. John Cantius Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN on January 28, 2017 Mass & Memorial services at 2:00.Memorial donations suggested: The ALS Association, MD Chapter, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855.
