This obituary is administered by:
Francisca Estrada WilsonOxnard, CAOur beloved mother, Francisca "Frances" Estrada Wilson passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Tuesday morning September 19, 2017. Our mom was born on October 4, 1928 to the union of Magdalena Escobedo and Manuel Estrada in Zacatecas Mexico. After marrying Luis Olivares, she immigrated to the United States in 1949. In 1997, she attained citizenship of the United States of America. It was one of her proudest achievements, second only to seeing her children become responsible adults. Our mom was the matriarch of our family. She taught us that family comes first. She dedicated her whole life to caring for us and working hard in various local packing houses to provide for us but most importantly by giving us her unconditional love. She instilled in us the importance of education, hard work, and independence. To her credit all of her children are well educated and successful in their own right. She supported our interests by attending various sporting events and activities. As a result she became a loyal Dodger and Laker fan! Mom not only filled our hearts and souls with love, she filled our stomachs with some of the best food ever! She was an incredible cook. She fondly recalled learning to cook authentic Mexican dishes from her mother and later learning to cook southern style meals from her second mother in law. Her tamales, pozole, tacos, carne con chili, chicken and dumplings, fried green tomatoes and fried chicken were some of our favorite dishes. Mom was an avid gardener. She would spend hours daily caring for her plants. She loved to grow plants from cuttings. She favored roses, especially red and salmon in color but her green thumb worked equally well with other plants. She planted dwarf avocado, lemon and lime trees in the backyard that grew well beyond their "dwarfness" due to her special touch and tender care. Mom also enjoyed mariachi music and songs from the 50's and 60's. Some of her favorites were Amor Eterno, Unchained Melody, and all songs by Elvis especially Love me Tender and Suspicious Minds. She looked forward to sharing time with family and friends in her patio (lovingly called grandma's casita) over looking her plants, listening to music, and telling stories with a glass of white wine. Mom is survived by her children Jose Luis Olivares(Sejin), John Olivares (Nohemi), Frank Olivares (Gail), Olivia Olivares, and Patricia Olivares (Mickye); 9 grandchildren: Angela Barroso (Angel), Kari Rader (Ken), Rubin Olivares, Pualani McCullum (Ciaran), Tania Bobadilla, Jason Bryan, Steven Olivares (Angela), Philip Duran, and Bryan Samuel (Michelle). She is also survived by 18 great grand-children, Ryan, Brandon, Maya, Bryant, Colin, Dylan, Cameron, Kristin, Angel, Avery, Jeri, Jason, Edward Jr, Dominic, Arianna, Brandon, Izec, and Riley and her constant canine companion Lucy. The loss of our mom leaves a huge void but we will keep her alive in our hearts as we recall our special memories of her. Mom received hospice services from Buena Vista. We extend our gratitude for the compassionate services from all their care providers especially her nurse, Tina Rowe. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 10:00 am to 10:00pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel in Oxnard. A Mass will be officiated on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 10:00 am at Santa Clara Church, 323 South E Street Oxnard. Interment to follow at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.
