May 7, 1936 - November 19, 2016Frances Ruth (Wilson) Gilbreth passed away peacefully on November 19, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas after a sudden and brief illness. Frances was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher who lived her life with amazing grace, love, and laughter. She was a 5th generation Texan born on May 7, 1936 to Elbert (Bill) and Olga (Detraz) Wilson in Port Arthur, Texas. She spent her youth in Port Arthur and enjoyed playing the piano, reading any book she could find, and trips to the beach. She was a 1953 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. She obtained her college degrees from Southwest Texas Teachers College (Texas State University) in San Marcos, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and earned her Masters of Education Degree in 1959. During her time at college she met her best friend and the love of her life William "Buster" Gilbreth. They were married November 25, 1956 at St. John Catholic Church in San Marcos and were blessed with three daughters and a wonderful family. She is survived by all; William "Buster" Gilbreth of San Antonio, Deborah (Donald) Fry of Pflugerville, Diane (Kevin) Oncken of Austin and Donna Mahan of Houston. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Matt Fry & Lauren Fry Ramos (Dom) of Austin, Katie & Jeff Oncken of Austin, Max & Joey Mahan of Houston and one great grandchild, Layla Ramos. She is also survived by her only sibling, her brother, John M. Wilson of Richardson, Texas. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins survive her as well. Frances was an elementary school teacher for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Her passion for teaching and her sincere commitment to all of her students was undeniable. Her support, encouragement and smile was always there from the beginning of the school day until the final bell. The many students she hoped that she had inspired, came from the following School Districts; Freer, Poteet, Cotulla, San Antonio, Cuero, Galena Park and Fort Bend. Frances and Buster traveled to 16 countries and visited all 50 states during their retirement years. Together they had a beautiful life, a solid love and friendship, and experienced many great adventurers along the way. Frances was an avid reader, a wonderful cook, loved a game of 42, a good movie, conversations with Buster and was always a football fan. She was an important figure in her grandchildren's lives, always a good listener, always there for love and support, she was their biggest fan. Frances was awarded a National PTA Life Achievement Award. She was a Lifetime member of Texas State Teachers Association, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and The Daughters of the American Revolution.
