Frances McKinnieUrbandale and formerly of OsceolaFrances Evelyn McKinnie, 88, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Osceola, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, surrounded by her family.A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. Visitation will be Monday, April 24, 2017 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Kale Funeral Home.Frances Evelyn Steele, daughter of Earl and Nona Steele, was born on November 15th, 1928 in Des Moines. Fran spent her childhood in Des Moines and Woodburn area and graduated from Woodburn High School at the top of her class in 1947 where she played basketball and was involved in school activities. She married her high school sweetheart Marion "Mac" McKinnie in 1948 and moved to Osceola. They moved to Woodburn where they began their family until they moved back to Osceola in 1959. She spent many hours watching her husband and children playing sports and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, was a Boy Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, a mentor to Rainbow Girls and member of the Osceola Eagles Lodge. In 2011 she moved to Urbandale, Iowa to be closer to her family.She was honored as a 50 year member of the Grand Chapter of Iowa Order of the Eastern Star in 2007 and was elected Grand Representative to Pennsylvania in 1963. Fran began her real estate career at age 49, owned Crossroads Realty plus an Iowa Realty franchise. She enjoyed a 24 year career in Osceola and the surrounding area selling homes, farms and businesses as well as acted as a broker associate for several other real estate companies in Osceola. Homeowners shared stories at her retirement party about how much she helped many folks own their first homes and how grateful for her hard work and expertise finding "their perfect home". She was proud of her membership in Iowa Realty's Million Dollar Club and was an elected President of the South Central Iowa Association of Realtors.Fran is survived by her brother Bud (Gloria) Steele of Leon; three children, Linda Kelley of Bloomington, MN; son, Marty McKinnie of Urbandale; daughter Karen and Jeffrey Remaklus of Urbandale; grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Kemp of Eagan, MN, Mason and Katie McKinnie of Hawthorn Woods, IL, and Mandi and Nathan Thole of Ankeny, IA; great-grandchildren, Alex and Brady Kemp of Eagan, MN and Crosby and Walker McKinnie of Hawthorn Woods, IL; nieces and nephews, other relatives plus a host of friends. Fran was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Mac; sister Cora Guthrie; parents, aunts and uncles.Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Iowa Boxer rescue.
