Frances Josephine Edelen, 90, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, in Louisville. She was born on April 25, 1925, in Washington County to the late John Bradley and Mary Theresa Yates Wimsatt. In her education she received her bachelor's degree from Spalding College and her master's from Western Kentucky University. She was a former teacher at St. Joseph Elementary retiring after 18 years of service. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served in many aspects including church organist, altar society, parish council, Cathedral tour guide and spent 16 years working part time as a tour guide at the Oscar Getz Museum.She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Robert Edelen, a son, Joseph Robert Edelen Jr., brothers, Leon Wimsatt and John "Johnny" Wimsatt Jr., and Gene Wimsatt; and a sister, Louise Thompson.Survivors include two sons, Ray Edelen, of Bardstown, Gerard (Susan) Edelen, of Crestwood; four daughters, Mary (Don) Wood and Geri Edelen, both of Louisville, Helen Abbott, of Marrero, La, Caroline Downs, of Bardstown; brothers, Bev (Mary Annette) Wimsatt and Arthur Wimsatt, both of Bardstown, Ed (Pauline) Wimsatt, of Concord, NH, and Earl (Rosie) Wimsatt of Fairborn, Ohio, sisters, Geri(John) Werkman, Marie Grigsby, Mary Wimsatt, all of Bardstown, and Barbara (Carl) Nett, of Louisville; five grandchildren, Emily, Keith, Kelsey, Michael and Alicia; two great-grandsons; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, with prayers at 7 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road. Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of contributions to St. Joseph Elementary or St. Joseph Church. Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
