Floyd Oliver "Pat" Young passed away peacefully in the company of family on Monday, May 7, 2012.Pat led a full life following his passions and dreams.Pat was born on Dec. 16, 1931 in Bozeman, Montana to Brig and Grace Young. He grew up in Manhattan, Mt. where he lived through high school. During these years his love for basketball, hunting, and fishing was kindled. These interests, as well as the friendships made, impacted his life, especially in later years.Pat attended college at Western Montana College as well as Montana State University, playing basketball for both schools. He took a break from college to join the United States Navy during the Korean War.While attending Western Montana College, he met his future wife Carol Jane Larson. They married on June 9, 1954. This marriage lasted for 54 years until Carol's death. Their oldest son Greg was born in 1955.Pat and Carol worked for the next 5 years putting each other through college. Upon graduation, they moved to Fairview, Montana where Pat taught high school and coached football and basketball. Their second son David was born in 1961. In 1962 they moved to Jerome, Idaho where Pat continued teaching and coaching. While in Jerome, Pat experienced the height of his coaching career, winning district and state awards. Pat's heart physically could not match his passion for coaching so due to health issues he had to step away from a career he loved.He then started his second career finding support and creating job opportunities for mentally and physically challenged adults. It was at the beginning of this career path that Pat and Carol had their third and final child, Amy, in 1966. Pat followed this path for the next 30 years taking jobs within Vocational Rehabilitation in Idaho, Alaska, and then back to Idaho. He held jobs from case worker to director and everything in between, touching hundreds of lives in very positive ways.While in Alaska, Pat rediscovered his passion for fishing, and started his love affair with boats and commercial fishing, owning several boats over the 17 years while he and Carol were in Alaska.In 1990, Pat retired from the State of Alaska and returned to Boise. There he returned to work as the Director of Vocational Rehabilitation until 2000. After that retirement, he spent time as a lobbyist working with the Idaho Legislature advocating for the retired and as well as the disabled.Pat finally retired from his professional career and devoted his time to his church, woodworking, and watching his grandchildren grow.In 2009 Carol succumbed to a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and Pat found himself alone for the first time in 54 years. He reconnected with his Manhattan roots and reestablished friendships first begun 70 years prior. Dinner with an old friend, Dolores Prescott, began a rewarding relationship. Pat and Dolores married and have enjoyed each other's company for the last 2 ½ years.Pat is proceed in death by his mother Grace Young, his father Brig Young, his first wife Carol Young, and his grandchildren Osten and Olivia Kvaalen.Pat is survived by his second wife Dolores Young, his son Greg and his wife Cristy Young of Boise, ID, his son David and his wife Valerie Young of Poulsbo, WA, his daughter Amy and husband Jon Kvaalen of Lambert, MT, his sister Beverly and her husband Russell McMurray of Belgrade, MT, his grandchildren Morgan Young, Chase Young, Chandler Young, Fischer Young, Lars Kvaalen, Cortland Young, and Caden Young as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.A service will be held at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Boise at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2011.Remembrances can be made to the .
