Facundo B. Valdez, 82, a resident of Las Vegas since 1972, formerly of Mora, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe.He was born on March 13, 1932, in Mora to the late Facundo Valdez and Elena Mares.He was the director of social work at the New Mexico Highlands University for 30 years. He was a Catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Facundo and Elena Mares; brothers, Bartolo Valdez, Eugenio Valdez, Benito Valdez, and Lucas Valdez; sisters, Paulita Lucero, Stella Martinez, and Eloisa De Herrera; and daughter, Monica Valdez.He is survived by his wife, Dora C. Valdez, who currently resides in Las Vegas; sons, Ivan Valdez and wife, Elizabeth, of Albuquerque, and Ronald Tenorio and wife, Charlotte, of Belen; grandchildren, Jasmin, Tatiana, Andre, Savannah, Caleb, and Leyna; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Lillyana, Anthony, and Arcenio; brother, Felipe Valdez and wife, Florida, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sister, Maria Antonia Bustos of Commerce City, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Rosary services will be held at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Gertrude Church in Mora. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday also in Mora with Father Dennis Dolter SOLT as celebrant. Cremation will take place after the services and burial of cremains will take place at a later date in Mora Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers are Sam Valdez, Andy Valdez, Esmael Valdez, Michael Bustos, Pete Bustos, and Caleb Tenorio.
