EVONNE G. WILSON A Celebration of Life will be held for Evonne (Vonnie) Wilson on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Butte Creek Country Club. Vonnie passed away after a long illness on April 25, 2017 at the age of 83. Vonnie was born on July 3, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa, the youngest of two children of Charles and Gladys Steeg. Her family moved to Chico in 1945. She attended Chico High School and graduated in 1951. On June 11, 1955, she married the love of her life, J.B. Wilson. Vonnie and J.B. were happily married for 56 years until J.B.'s death in 2011. They made Chico their life-long home and raised their three children there. Vonnie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family, including visits to the family cabin in Lake Almanor and fiercely supporting her grandchildren and great -grandchildren in all of their extracurricular activities. Vonnie provided countless family dinners to celebrate every possible holiday and birthday, especially Christmas which was her favorite holiday. She was an avid bridge player and continued to play bridge the 2nd Tuesday of every month up until 2 weeks before she passed. She maintained a very close relationship with her brother, Dale Steeg, until his death in 2012. Vonnie and J.B. loved their community of Chico and showed their support for local charitable organizations and businesses, having a special place in their hearts for Enloe Medical Center. Vonnie spent 37 years volunteering for the Enloe Hospital Auxiliary, working in the Enloe Gift Shop at least one shift per week during that time. In honor of Vonnie and J.B.'s many years of service and contributions, their names are displayed above the entrance of the new Enloe Gift Shop. Vonnie is survived by her three children: Susan Wheeler (Gary), Patti Souza, and Jim Wilson (Cindy) and her 14 grandchildren/great grandchildren: Jennifer, Stephen, Jeffery, Emily, Rachel, Kelsey, Keaton, Malcolm, Maddie, Ryan, John, Caitlin, Brynn, and J.J. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Enloe Medical Center Foundation. Share your thoughts online at
