Eugenia Alina GruenkeEugenia Alina Gruenke, 92, of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.She was born on April 5, 1925 in Schulez, Kretuz, Poland to the late Heinrich and Olga (Ferle) Wahl.On May 24, 1942, she married Benjamin Gruenke in Poland and they fled to Germany during the war. Then in 1952 they entered the United States. They were married for 58 years before he preceded her in death on January 14, 2001.Eugenia worked for Purdue University as a housekeeper at Earhart Hall for 35 years before she retired.She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and was involved with the Altar Guild and the St. James Food Pantry.Eugenia enjoyed crocheting and working in the garden. She never missed an opportunity to help her children and grandchildren.Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Edith (Clark) Grady of Lafayette and Mrs. Helene Shoaf of Battle Ground and her sister, Helene Wolfran of Germany. Also surviving are her 12 grandchildren, Stephanie (Travis) Jones, Scott (Carla) Grady, Kendal (Christopher) Wigent, Andrea (Dave) Kessler, Erik (Jessica M.) Grady, Jeremiah Grady, Kalani (Dave) McClannen, Alina (Derek) Brutz, Benjamin (Rhonda) Richardson, Juliana (Raymond) Gray, Kurt (Nancy) Richardson, and Travis (Peggy) Richardson; 28 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by daughter, Maria Alina Gruenke; brother, Heinrich Wahl; son-in-law, Charles Shoaf; grandson, Christian Grady; and grandson and his wife, Tara and Maureen Grady.Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at St. James Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church with Pastor David French officiating and interment will be in Spring Vale Cemetery. Fisher Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.Memorial donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church in loving memory of Eugenia.
