Ethel Pautz Obituary
Nov 01, 2016 - Feb 01, 2016
This obituary is administered by:
Ethel M. Pautz 1930 - 2015 Ethel M. Pautz, 84, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at her residence. Ethel was born on Nov. 3, 1930, to the late Paul and Martha (Bagnewski) Kujak in Fountain City, Wis. She was educated in the schools of Fountain City and graduated from Cochran-Fountain City High School. On June 18, 1949, she married Eugene H. Pautz in LaCrosse. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2012. Ethel will be remembered for her tremendous zest for life whether it be working in her catering business, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, visiting with her sisters and brothers in Western Wisconsin or Door County or watching her favorite sports teams including the Brewers, Celtics and of course, those Minnesota Vikings. She had a way of lighting up a room with her energy and ability to make everyone and anyone feel welcomed and appreciated. It was Ethel's magnetic personality and skill as a food preparer and server that made her a natural for starting her own Pautz Catering business over 40 years ago. Prior to that, Ethel served as a waitress, head cook or caterer for The Flamingo, Johnny Neubaurer's, Buratti's, The Village Inn, The Elk's Club, The Bartley House, The Kenosha Yacht Club, The Polish Legion American Veterans, The Jantz Club, and The Danish Brotherhood. A special memory of the children was Thursday evenings at home helping Ethel bread the fresh perch for the Buratti's Friday Perch Fry. The breading is still a family secret. Ethel worked diligently with her daughter, Mona, to serve clients and provide them with a quality product for a reasonable price. Through the years, Ethel catered hundreds of weddings, parties and funerals for thousands of Kenosha area residents. Ethel catered and served people until the age of 83. Her dream was to one day have a reunion for everyone she had served during the years through her catering business. We will just have to wait until we join her in heaven for that to occur. We think God would even enjoy her cooking! Ethel worked hard and played hard. She enjoyed dancing as well as knitting. In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler in leagues at the Roosevelt Lanes and later enjoyed Wii bowling at home with her husband Gene. She still owns the family record on Wii for a 265 game, which she achieved at the age of 80. But the most joy she received in her spare time was being with and enjoying her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She relished the three trips out to Maine to spend time with the Pautz and Fargo grandchildren, the camping at her sister Eileen's in Door County, following the Pappe grandchildren in their school activities in town, regular visits to the House of Pautz in Kaukauna and the two Disney World excursions. She was visited on her 84th birthday by three of her great grandchildren and she saw the other six great grandchildren this past summer. A highlight when returning from one of the Maine trips was a slight detour that the family took to Terre Haute, so Ethel could visit the Hall of Fame for her favorite Boston Celtic, Larry Bird. Ethel thoroughly enjoyed watching professional sports and her husband, Gene, helped her to actually understand the games as they watched them together through their years. She watched the Celtics in the winter and the Brewers in the spring and summer, but when autumn came around, you would find Ethel adorned in her purple and gold jersey, jacket, shoelaces and tennis shoes as well as her fingernails ready to cheer on her Minnesota Vikings. Her love for that team actually started with her following her favorite football player, Fran Tarkenton. A great memory for her was when her son acquired tickets in the early 70's for a Vikings/ Packers game at Lambeau Field. The seats where on the fifty-yard line, first row behind the Viking bench. This did not allow much of a view of the game because the seats were too low to the field but Ethel often boasted about enjoying just looking at the butts of the players on her favorite team! She had a great sense of humor, which made her easy to love. And it was Ethel's gift for extending unconditional love and acceptance to those in her life that stands out as the quality that as a spouse, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and colleague she will be remembered for the most. Ethel found something good and wonderful in everyone and modeled that trait to those around her. We believe that when Ethel was greeted by the Lord, he welcomed her to heaven with the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Ethel is survived by her loving children, her sons Jack (Penni) Pautz of Kaukauna, Wis., and Jay Pautz of Hibbing, Minn.;, her daughters, Jill (Michael) Fargo of Phoenix, Ariz., Mona Clark and Mary (Chris) Pappe both of Kenosha; her 10 grandchildren and her nine great grandchildren; her sister, Betty Jean (Ed) Hentjes of Fountain City and her brother, Bud Kujak of Blair, Wis. She is preceded in death by a grandson, Jackson Michael Fargo; her sisters, Dorothy, Helen and Eileen and her brother Ray. Visitation for Ethel will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Bruch Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated to organizations to support the needy. The family would like to thank the staff at Froedtert Hospital, the staff at Hospice Alliance and especially her daughter Mona for the love and compassionate care given to Ethel.
