"Mama"Taylorsville, UT-Our sweet mother decided to celebrate the holidays in heaven and passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 21, 2016. She was born on June 29, 1927 in Salt Lake City to German immigrants, Karl and Theresa Weiss, the 4th of ten children. Mom came from very humble beginnings and learned the value of hard work which she instilled in each of her children. She attended South High School and LDS Business College. Mom met Dad, a handsome serviceman, at a roller rink and he insisted on walking her home-along with the boy who brought her. They were married in 1946 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on their 8th wedding anniversary. Before moving to Taylorsville, mom and dad lived for many years in downtown Salt Lake and had many dear friends in the Harvard South Ward.Mom had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many capacities in her wards. One of her favorite callings was as the Relief Society President for the Bennion Care Center. She loved visiting her ladies and taking them special treats. She also served as a temple ordinance worker and as a compassionate service leader for a number of years, and many remember her famous pot roast and mashed potatoes. Mom loved genealogy like her father and presented each of her children with a Book of Remembrance containing stories and pictures that she had lovingly collected. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of the clothes for her growing family, including beautiful prom dresses. No grandchild left her house without a special treat and she was affectionately known as the "twinkie grandma".Mom is survived by her sweetheart of 70 years, Robert D. Apple, one brother Michael (Jan) Weiss, and six children: Barbara Apple, Steve (Glenda) Apple, Laury (Paul) Tuttle, Annette Apple, Ilene (Layne) Strong, and Robert Apple Jr. She leaves behind a wonderful posterity of 18 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25th at the Bennion Ward Chapel at 5980 South 1300 West, in Taylorsville. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, November 26th at the Bennion Ward Chapel, with a viewing prior to the services at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
